I was in the Law Abiding Biker Garage testing & installing a new lithium-ion battery for my Harley Davidson motorcycle. I’ve tested other brand lithium-ion motorcycle batteries but wanted to test a new brand for the biker community. My old lead-acid battery went bad in two years, which sucks. Although lithium-ion batteries for motorcycles cost more, they have many benefits over lead-acid batteries.

If you have to have a special battery tender for a Lithium battery how does the bikes original electrical charging system affect the Lithium battery. I ride a 2003 Harley Davidson Road King! Is a Lithium battery compatible for this motorcycle Thanks
Matt Couchman says
Dooney,
A healthy motorcycle charging system puts out about 14 volts at 2,000 rpm, and a lithium battery needs between 13 and 14 volts to charge. So your bike’s system put out enough volts to charge the lithium battery. Trickle chargers are another story. THe standard charger puts out 12.8 volts which is good for a lead-acid battery but not enough for a lithium battery. This is why you need a charger designed to work with a lithium battery.

Hi,
I have installed a Lithium Life 8AH battery for my 2015 Streetglide Special. I have a 1 amp duel mode
Harley Davidson charger part #66000304. For days now, and its been hot weather, the indicator on the charger just pulses red. I know it has been green in the past. The bike starts right up without any issues. Is this normal?
