If you currently have or are considering purchasing a Harley-Davidson extended warranty plan at the time of purchase on a new bike with the Milwaukee-eight motor, you may reconsider now and into the future if things stay in their current state. If you are planning on adding specific performance upgrades, it may void both the two-year manufacturer's warranty and any 3 or 5-year Harley extended warranty you purchased, commonly referred to as an “extended service plan”. These new strict warranty policies really only pertain to 2017 & newer Harley's with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. Those of us that own earlier models really haven't had to deal with what I'm about to reveal to you.

In a Consumer Alert issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the agency confirmed that “The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket part.” The alert outlines key provisions in the law that provides protections to car owners. As defined by the FTC, an “aftermarket’ part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer.”

Well my 2019 114 stage 3 that HD dealer installed had warranty voided by corporate due to a vision tuner being used instead of se tuner and the dealer installed the vision tune … now the dealer did step in and trade out bikes from 2019 to a 2020 to keep me in warranty but wouldn’t build back to stage 3 only stage 2 which is ridiculous and something I’m still working on with attorney now.

Unfortunetly My new 2020 fltrxs was delivered 6 days ago. I was preasured to buy the extended warranty at purchase but refused. (Lucky me!) I was aware that I could purchase it at a later date.
I have one question though. What impact does the FTC Magnuson-Moss warranty act serve to protect us if there aren’t any teeth in the law?
I’ve riden Harleys for 48 years. This will probably be the last one! (mostly because of my age.)
It seems they just want to f__k me one more time for the road!

James,
Unfortunately its civil law and you’d have to get an attorney and sue. But hey, enjoy that new bike!
