I get asked all the time, “Ryan, what is the best motorcycle trip planning app and which one do you use?” So, in this video and article, I am going to go over 4 popular motorcycle trip planning applications for street and off-road adventure riding. And, what you need to know about each because they all have strengths and weaknesses. Understand, there is no perfect motorcycle trip planning app and much of it will depend on your personal needs. (see detailed video below)
#1-Harley-Davidson Ride Planner
There are 4 map styles to choose from, such as regular or satellite, and plenty of filters such as gas stations, dealerships, events, restaurants, hotels. You can also avoid tolls, unpaved roads, etc. You can enter an address for a waypoint or just make a waypoint where you like. You can easily drag points around to guide your route where you want it to go. I really like that you can change the names for each waypoint and that it shows mileage/ride time between each waypoint. This way I can see the total ride time and mileage for each day of a long-distance multi-day ride.
#2-Rever
Rever is a paid motorcycle trip planning app at $5 a month, so $40 a year. It is one of the most expensive apps but it's a bit more than just a motorcycle trip planning app. It is also a social app with motorcycle communities within and the ability to share rides, progress, and more. Rever has one of the busiest, yet most polished user interfaces of all the apps. Honestly, it's so busy and has so much going on, that I oftentimes shy away from it. Law Abiding Biker Media does have a Rever community/group for our beloved Patron Members! It's just one benefit of becoming a supporting member. Join the #BikerRevolution
#3-InRoute
InRoute is another paid motorcycle trip planning app at $30 a year, which is 1/2 the price of Rever. It is unique to all the others in that it's not necessarily web-based. You don't go to a website to plan your ride but instead must have the desktop app. And, InRoute is for Mac and IOS only. It's not PC or Android supported. Also, InRoute is Apple Car Play compatible but not Android Auto.

Ryan, You need to check out Myrouteapp.com. It is by fare the best trip planning app that i have ever used. It is really easy to use after watching their instructional videos. Its a european app, but it also works in the US. I plan my trips on my computer and then just pull them up on their app on my phone. It’s extreme easy to plan a motorcycle route. You just draw on the map the route you want to take. You pick a starting spot and start drawing and clicking on the roads you want to take. Give it a look.

Thanks for the review, good info. I recently purchased REVER for a trip to Alaska next year. It is not Google maps, for ease of use but it is not bad either.
Safe rides,
Dale

I’m surprised Base Camp was not mentioned in the article. I gave up on Harleys go’s system. It is a joke at best. I completely ignore it. Using Base camp is definitely a learning curve! but it’s the best software I’ve used. I have add a Garmin 396 motorcycle gps to my Harley ultra. Best money spent! I create a ride from my desktop and then download to my Garmin gps. Almost fool proof. I ride lots of backroads that most folks would never find in a life time. I live in Raleigh nc but have found myself ride the mountains of West Virginia most of the time. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks

Hi,
You stated that the Harley Ride Planner is supported in Apple CarPlay, do you have any information on how that is done? I can’t see it, there is a Harley icon in CarPlay but pressing it just bumps me out to the main screen. I would prefer to stay in CarPlay when using it but I have only been able to get it working with the Boom Box nav, or through the phone via Bluetooth.

Harley Ride planner ALWAYS changes the route when the .gpx file is uploaded to your Boom audio system. It depends on how you have your bike’s navigation set up in terms of fastest, shortest, etc which conflicts with the app. I never get the exact route, roads and waypoints I chose after hours of work. Your Ride planner video does not address how to handle this issue. Therefore I will ask the question here, what is the best way to get the exact route uploaded to the Boom audio system without getting any changes??

Been using Scenic app the past year and really like it. You should check it out if you have t before. Easy to create a route and to share.
