Video-In this free video we show you in great detail how to install a 7-pin DIN audio & communications kit or plug on your Harley-Davidson touring model. Models such as the Harley Ultra Classic or Ultra Limited already come set up with this 7-pin plug. However, models such as Harley Street Glides and Road Glides don't come stock with it.
The biggest benefit to installing the Harley 7-pin DIN is so that you can then use an aftermarket wired headset (see products below) in conjunction with your stereo system on 98 to current Harley-Davidson motorcycles!
Give voice commands directly to the Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System such as directions, tune to radio stations, make a phone call etc! And, if you and your passenger are equipped with a wired headset you can communicate with each other!
There are currently NO Bluetooth wireless headsets that pair “directly” with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. There are some workarounds such as the Sena Freewire that adds wireless Bluetooth headset capabilities to the Boom Box.
Our #1 Recommended Wired Harley Headset of Choice for half helmet, full face helmet, 3/4 helmet, and modular helmets (The best & most affordable option for full headset/Boom Box functionality & a fraction of the price of a headset with “Harley-Davidson” stamped on it)
If you are someone who only buys things that say “Harley-Davidson” then here are your more expensive options.
Harley-Davidson® BOOM!™ Audio Full Helmet Premium Music and Communications Headset - 77117-10
Harley-Davidson® BOOM! Audio™ Half Helmet Music and Communications Headset - 76572-09
Harley-Davidson® BOOM! Audio™ Half Helmet Music Headset - Black - 76569-09
Note: (Add-on 7-pin DIN kits)(Street Glide, Road Glide Etc)(Affiliate Links)
If your Harley touring model, such as a Street Glide, Road Glide etc, doesn't come stock with the 7-pin DIN plug, you can easily purchase and install an add-on kit. Then you can utilize a Harley-Davidson wired headset!

Jimmie,
There isn’t a passenger 7-pin set up for the SG and RG at this point. We’ll be sure to advise the community if we hear one is available. Ride Safe & Ride Often!
Charley says
Do I have to take my 2017 SGS to the dealer to have a flash done for my 7 pin cable and boom audio headset or can I do this myself
Matt Couchman says
Charley,
No flash needed. You can do the install yourself.

What’s the cheapest option you can offer to set up a 2016 Street Glide to helmet coms…..I’m aware of
pin Sena but now thinking cable (like the Ultra)….ie head set and Boom audio music coms connection (bike end) – Note enquiring from Australia as HD helmet coms sets over here are very expensive
Thanks

I ride 2up most of the time. I was searching through the harley catalog and knowing the ultra comes with two 7 pin DIN connectors. Any reason the ultra harness wouldn’t work on a street glide?
Ryan Urlacher says
Not sure which harness you’re speaking of. If you talking about a rear harness?…..to my knowlege it won’t work on other bikes except for the Ultra. To date HD does not make a passenger 7 pin add on kit.

I have a 2018 RGS. The instructions in the box, and this video, tell you to install the ground pin into the empty pin 12 of the OEM connector. On my RGS, there was already a wire in pin 12. I looked at the (later version) installation instructions on the H-D site; those instructions tell you to remove the existing pin 12 wire.
Matt Couchman says
Dave,
No flash is required. Here is a link to the instructions: https://bit.ly/2Kfgr7G

Mine is the same way Dave did yours work out by removing the wire and adding the ground and if you could which one is to be removed i cant find a good wire diagram on which is which. I watch Ryans video and can see which one was empty is it the same location?
Felice Delloiacono says
Will the communication kit also work for CB, if I was to install one on my 2018 Road Glide?
Ryan Urlacher says
Yes
RonM says
Just installed the 7 pin headset cable and have the HD full helmet headset. However voice commands are not recognized. I get the beep prompt but no response to voice commands. I have the latest BOOM 6.5 software. All control screens are set to HEADSET. Do I have a bum BOOM?
Ken Dollinger says
Is there some way to continue to have passenger communication when I remove the Tour Pack from my 2016 Ultra Classic?
Matt Couchman says
Ken,
You can add a rear port mounted somewhere indiscreet or switch to Sena wireless heat sets.

Installed seven pin harness on 2019 system. There was a wire in the number12 slot i removed that wire and installed ground wire as soon now with engine in acc I hear a winning sound. Removed ground wire and replaced wire that in hole but headset doesn’t work. Any help?
Jon Wilder says
Hi Matt.
In looking at the schematics for a 2020 Touring, there is a connector, [162A/B] that appears to be a disconnect for the tour pack harness. It contains the connections for the speaker pod option, speaker pod switch, and the passenger 7-pin DIN connector. I imagine this connector resides in the fairing but I have yet to pull mine apart and confirm. I’m wondering if there’s a way to make a 7-Pin DIN harness that taps into the correct pin locations in this connector and enable the passenger wired headset interface. Have you, or do you know anyone who has attempted this?
Matt Couchman says
Jon,
We have not attempted this. My initial thought is it just needs to be plugged into the Boom Box system, but may also require a flash update from your local HD delaership.

I have a 2020 street glide special, my 12 pin plug on my bike has a wire in all twelve ports no plugs. Should i remove the wire in the 12 hole and add the ground?

I own a 2012 Ultra CVO and would like to use our new wireless headsets in our new Harley helmets. Is there an adapter available for full communication as if we were plugged into the system?
