Note: With the J&M Rokker XX Extreme amp & speakers install you will not need a Harley dealership to “flash” or “re-program” your Boom!™ Box Infotainment System after install if you have never flashed the Boom Box before for any other configuration than stock. If you have flashed the Boom Box for another audio system of some sort then you will need to visit your dealership and have it flashed.  The stock Boom Box configuration is set to “0” amps and “4” speakers out of the factory. This configuration is what the J&M Rokker XX Extreme is specifically set to work with.

And so, it becomes a delicate balance.  We all know how limited space can be when traveling on a motorcycle. That is also one of the reasons we love it so much. Pack what you can fit on your bike and ride into the sunset! Free your mind and soul!

This episode is spawned from an internet voicemail we received from audience member David Schwartz from Isreal. He is planning a long motorcycle ride here in the United States very soon and wanted to know what to pack. He wanted our thoughts, experience, and insight into packing for motorcycle trips and that's exactly what we give everyone in this podcast episode.

David Schwartz of Israel also mentioned how pleased he was with our Harley oil change and maintenance video. He has saved a ton of money doing his own oil changes and routine maintenance.

We dive deep into this topic and it will make you think for sure. You might even refine what you pack yourself.     • You can pack lighter if you know where laundry services are at in a town you may be staying in
    • Schedule to clean or for someone to clean your laundry while passing through
    • You can pack much lighter this way and use clothes again

    • Remember that if you buy things on your trip to stop by UPS or USPS and have them shipped back home
    • They will be there when you return home
    • You don't have to pack them around this way and are not as limited on the amount of items you can purchase

Harley 7-pin DIN Music & Commucations Kit Plug Install Video YT copyVideo-In this free video we show you in great detail how to install a 7-pin DIN audio & communications kit or plug on your Harley-Davidson touring model. Models such as the Harley Ultra Classic or Ultra Limited already come set up with this 7-pin plug. However, models such as Harley Street Glides and Road Glides don't come stock with it.

The biggest benefit to installing the Harley 7-pin DIN is so that you can then use an aftermarket wired headset (see products below) in conjunction with your stereo system on 98 to current Harley-Davidson motorcycles!

Give voice commands directly to the Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System such as directions, tune to radio stations, make a phone call etc!  And, if you and your passenger are equipped with a wired headset you can communicate with each other!

There are currently NO Bluetooth wireless headsets that pair “directly” with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. There are some workarounds such as the Sena Freewire that adds wireless Bluetooth headset capabilities to the Boom Box.

Harley Davidson and Harman Kardon just released Boom!™ Box software update version 1.19.2 on February 1, 2016. This comes right after software update versions 1.19.1.2 was released in December 2015.  We have received many inquiries from bikers asking if they should update to this latest version. It is always a good idea to wait and see if an update fixes more than it breaks and let me have some time to test things.Halrey Boom Box software update 1.19.2

Note: This particular update if for the Boom Box 4.3 Standard, 6.5T Premium, and the CVO 6.5GT systems. I give the go ahead to update to this new Boom Box software update version, 1.19.2.

I installed and tested this update for you. As usual, don't expect any miracles and that suddenly all things will be fixed for ever user. They still have a long way to go to get rid of all the problems that persist with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System.

FAQ:

Question: If I get behind on updating my Boom Box software, will I have to go back and install each past update I missed?

Answer: No, you do not have to update incrementally. If you get behind, just grab the latest software update here and install it. It will update everything you need including past updates. There is no access to the older updates from the Harley website anyways.

LAB-98-Outdated Maps in Harley Boom!™ Box GPS & Biker Planet Information/Review | Plus More!

He purchased a 2014 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited equipped with the 6.5 GT Boom!™ Box Infotainment System.  He noticed that the version of maps in his GPS were dated from 2012 and wanted to know why his new bike had old maps.

Harley-Davidson partnered with Harman Kardon to design the Boom Box and with NaviExtras to handle the map portion of the GPS in the larger 6.5 touchscreen models. The smaller 4.3 non-touch screen Boom Box does not have GPS.  No, neither Harley Davidson nor local dealerships are going to check to make sure you have the current GPS maps in your Boom Box upon purchase of your new  brand new Harley.

Quite honestly, even if you asked your dealership representative they would not have a clue how to check for that or even how to update it. Yup, Harley has done a poor job on this matter and you're on your own. But, I'm here for you to keep you informed on this stuff.

NaviExtra seems to have exclusive rights to sell you the new updated Boom Box GPS maps and maps for other portions of the world. Unlike Garmin and other companies with lifetime updates or lower priced maps, NaviExtras sells their maps for the Boom Box anywhere from $150-$200 each. So, if you get a brand new $30,000-$50,000 Harley you may likely have old outdated maps. So, you can keep your old maps or you can go and spend extra money with NaviExtras to update your maps in the Boom Box GPS. Yup, and there is no other way around it.

I know, it's frustrating many Harley owners for sure & I get tons of emails about it. Thought I would send you a short email. First, I really appreciate the speak my voicemail you sent me thanking me for being a patron. Just totally awesome dude. Thank you. I was driving my big rig back from Oregon and was listening to podcast 41, The one that dealt with lane splitting. Got a kick out of the fact that you guys Kinda didn't really know what that really was. As a long time California motorcycle rider I am very familiar with this practice. Just want to give you an FYI about this practice. Riding in the shoulder of a roadway in California is paralegal.

That is considered driving in a emergency breakdown lane. Most of California's interstate systems are anywhere from 3 to 6 lanes, Meaning California freeways. The law says that a motorcycle may split A lane when traffic is under 25 mph. They may not ride across any solid yellow line or in the shoulder of a roadway. You've seen the dotted white line dividing lanes on a multilane highway. Lane splitting is riding down that dotted White line. We California bikers at least the 99% law-abiding bikers call This riding the zipper. Even though this is legal it is extremely nerve-racking. Most drivers are not aware of motorcycles in California they are not looking for them. When doing this maneuver you must take extreme caution and be very vigilant. Loud pipes while doing this maneuver save lives LOL but no joke. I have many hours riding the zipper and gray hairs to prove it. One other thing. Though you can ride the white line in any lane, most of us chose the farthest left lane, fast lane because most drivers usually stay in there lane the farther left you go. Iron Order MC & Mongols MC Colorado Biker Club Shooting-Controversy & Truths-Educate Yourself

denver colorado biker shooting mongols and iron orderI am writing this article completely independent as a long time law abiding biker and in reference to the bad information being reported about the recent biker shooting and stabbing January 30, 2016 at the Motorcycle Expo at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado.

I am not corrupted or influenced by any special interest groups like the mainstream media and other basement bloggers clearly are. The mainstream media are not bikers and know nothing about the biker community, which is why they will never report correctly on biker incidents like this.  They are printing what they are being fed by special interest groups within the motorcycle community & are being manipulated like puppets, which is common.

I have no affiliation with either of the motorcycle clubs involved, neither the Iron Order MC nor the Mongols MC. I have never personally experienced a problem with members of either club. I am not here to speculate or purposely target either motorcycle club. With integrity, I will report the truths and facts & let the appropriate criminal investigation of the incident play out.

The Iron Order Motorcycle Club is NOT a law enforcement motorcycle club or “cop club” as so many want to call it to justify their childish conspiracy hallucinations and false theories.  The fact is, that a very small overall number of the Iron Order's membership are Law Enforcement Officers (LEO's). The real truth is that the Iron Order MC is made up of carpenters, truck drivers, dentists, lawyers, doctors, and military personnel, just to name a few. And yes, some LEO's.

So, why are we not calling the Iron Order MC a “doctor club”, “carpenter club”, or a “veteran's club” when more of those type of members exist. I'll tell you why-because it is not “sexy” for the basement bloggers and traditional media to call it something else. If they call it a “truck driver” club then it will quickly defeat their agenda and conspiracy rants about police and government conspiracy. They couldn't fuel headlines like “cop club shoots Mongol” if they called it a “dentist club”. “Cop club” sounds “sexy” doesn't it?

Clearly our society is overwhelmed with information and to be quite honest (not trying to offend any particular career),  if the mainstream media and basement bloggers ran headlines reading “truck driver club shoots Mongol” a very small percentage of people would be interested. It is so much more sexy to call the Iron Order a “cop club” and it sells commercial spots. It's about money like usual and what will draw readers.
