Must Know Harley-Davidson Warranty Info! Beware!!

If you currently have or are considering purchasing a Harley-Davidson extended warranty plan at the time of purchase on a new bike with the Milwaukee-eight motor, you may reconsider now and into the future if things stay in their current state. If you are planning on adding specific performance upgrades, it may void both the two-year manufacturer's warranty and any 3 or 5-year Harley extended warranty you purchased, commonly referred to as an “extended service plan”. These new strict warranty policies really only pertain to 2017 & newer Harley's with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. Those of us that own earlier models really haven't had to deal with what I'm about to reveal to you.

Harley Travel Tool Kit & Items I Carry for Touring on my Motorcycle

I wanted to show you the Harley travel tool kit and maintenance items I carry when traveling cross-country on my motorcycle. (see video below)

Being compact and having what you need is most important along with the quality of course. Why have to call a tow truck & be down over a simple repair you can do yourself on the side of the road with one of these awesome Harley travel tool kits.

The Harley travel tool kit items I recommend and use are as follows:

I carry the Cruz Tools RTH3 RoadTech Standard Tool Kit for Harley-Davidson. We have used this tool kit multiple times for things like a quick clutch adjustment, securing a broken shifter linkage, and diagnosing worn shifter splines to name just a few. All these things could have put a stop to our motorcycle trip but we were able to get back on the road and get a more permanent fix when we found a dealership later on.

GET CRUZ TOOL KITS IN THE LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE HERE!

I also carry the Cruz Tools Outback'r H13 folding multi-tool for Harley. This little Harley tool kit is powerful, yet will fit in my pants pocket folded up. This muti-tool includes torx drives, hex wrenches, phillips & standard screwdrivers, sockets, socket driver, box & open end wrenches, and a spoke wrench.

I add a small amount of duct tape and some extra zip ties. I then wrap everything up in my main Cruz Tools RTH3 Kit for one powerful set of options for emergency roadside motorcycle repairs. This has saved the crew here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media on numerous occasions when far away from home when on our motorcycles.

Note: There are also metric versions of each kit.

Additionally, for my Harley travel tool kit, I carry a Cruz Tools TirePro Tire Guage. This gauge has a 12” flexible hose that makes even hard-to-get-to valves less of a task. Readings are held until released, and a built-in valve lets you “bleed” down to the desired pressure. Readings are in psi and kPa, and the dial is protected by a rubber boot. I can't recommend this enough. I have one in the shop too.

Apple Car Play Hack for Harley Boom Box GTS!

I found a trick to get Apple Car Play to work on the new Harley Boom Box GTS without having to install a wireless headset interface module (WHIM) and without having to have a Harley stamped Sena wireless Bluetooth headset paired! You don’t need a wired Harley headset connected either to get Apple Car Play to initiate. (see video below)

When the Boom Box GTS was first announced for 2019 and newer Harley touring models you needed the above items in place to get Apple Car Play to activate. With software updates Harley has recently put out, you can get Apple Car Play to work with a simple trick I found. You don’t need the Harley headsets or the WHIM, but you do need to take your Harley to a dealership so they can plug it into their proprietary Digital Technician II software and check a box to tell your Boom Box that you have a WHIM, even if you don’t.

By doing this, it activates Apple Car Play on the Harley Boom Box GTS and you can then begin using it. Don’t forget to go into your Harley Boom Box GTS setting and turn on “projection” mode, so it mirrors your iPhone. And remember that your iPhone has to be plugged directly into the Boom Box USB interface to activate Apple Car Play. It does not work if your iPhone is paired to the Boom Box GTS via Bluetooth.

Apple Car Play has much functionality and can be used without a headset and microphone. However, with a headset and microphone, you will get even more functionality such as Siri voice commands.

Remember that if you flash your Harley Boom Box for the WHIM, you won’t have to go back to a dealership in the future if you ad the WHIM for wireless Bluetooth headset pairing with your Harley Boom Box GTS. This trick is working with Harley Boom Box GTS software Version MY19.19.03.00. This could change in the future with software updates, so always save each software update version, so you can always revert if necessary.

Beware of Harley WHIM Headset Module Firmware Update! Missing Boom Box Configuration Menu!

Missing “config” tab and “status”

Since updating my Harley-Davidson Wireless Headset Interface Module “WHIM” to the latest version 1.1.4 firmware I have been having problems. My Harley stamped Sena 30k mesh & 20s wireless Bluetooth headsets will pair & I can hear music, however, the status and configuration menu tab in the Harley Boom Box menu are missing along with other audio settings. (see video below with detailed info)

How Wireless Headset Screen Should Look

Also, after updating the Harley WHM firmware, each time I go into the Boom Box wireless headset menu it shows it’s disabled and I have to enable it again. After much testing, I decided to revert to an older WHIM firmware update, version 1.0.2, and it immediately fixed the problem on two separate WHIM modules I was testing. Clearly, version 1.1.4 is corrupt and can break your Harley WHIM. I really hope this helps many in the biker community diagnose and fix this issue.

This process may or may not work for you and any testing or reverting of firmware is at your own risk.
