Harley Davidson and Harman Kardon just released Boom!™ Box software update version 1.20.1 on August 23, 2016. This comes after software update versions 1.19.2 was released in February 2016.  We have received many inquiries from bikers asking if they should update to this latest version. It is always a good idea to wait and see if an update fixes more than it breaks and let me have some time to test things.

Harley Boom Box Software Update Tutorial Video WebNote: This particular update if for the Boom Box 4.3 Standard, 6.5T Premium, and the CVO 6.5GT systems. I give the go ahead to update to this new Boom Box software update version, 1.20.1.

I installed and tested this update for you. As usual, don't expect any miracles and that suddenly all things will be fixed for ever user. They still have a long way to go to get rid of all the problems that persist with the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. We are all skeptical that they'll ever get the Boom Box working perfectly at this point.

FAQ:

Question: If I get behind on updating my Boom Box software, will I have to go back and install each past update I missed?

Answer: No, you do not have to update incrementally. If you get behind, just grab the latest software update here and install it. It will update everything you need including past updates. There is no access to the older updates from the Harley website anyways.

Remember; The Harley Boom!™ Box still has many annoying bugs and problems, so don't expect this software update to suddenly fix everything.

This update claims to fix the following: (1.20.1)

Issues Fixed:

Improvements:

• Zoom out levels have been increased to allow for viewing
of longer routes.
• Azerbaijan Map has been added to the ROW map database.
• The heading directional display will now operate as a
traditional compass with the top representing the direction
ahead and the rotating needle shall point to the direction of
North.
• The disclaimer or “Accept” screen will now auto advance
after 15 seconds.
Added Features
• Autozoom can be configured in Navigation Setup
Appearance menu.
• There are four separate levels based on what zoom level
the map will return to after the autozoom.
i. OFF – Autozoom is disabled (default)
ii. NEAR – It will return to the tightest scale.
iii. NORMAL – It will return to the middle scale.
iv. FAR – It will return to the widest scale.
• Vehicle Information screen will display “OK” or “Check Oil”
for oil pressure on MY17 models. Oil pressure values can
be enabled with a P&A accessory for MY17 vehicles.

• Access to tire pressure info on applicable models while in
clock/off screen display
• XM stuck in “retrieving data” screen
• Score updates through XM are not automatic after adding

Video-Bugslide-Best Motorcycle Denim Paint Waterless Cleaner | Better Than Harley Denim Cleaner

Bugslide Denim Art Final copyVideo-We get asked all the time here at Law Abiding Biker™ Podcast & Media…….what is the best & safest waterless motorcycle cleaner to use on Harley-Davidson denim paint or any motorcycle paint for that matter?

The answer is definitely Bugslide. It is completely safe and highly recommended by us for use on Harley denim paint. I actually tested Bugslide for years on a 2011 Harley Street Glide I owned with black denim paint. I also tested it for a year using Bugslide on a 2007 Harley Night Train with pewter denim paint. Buglside is good not only for denim paint, but all motorcycle paints.

You'll want to be careful about using waxes and certain cleaners on Harley denim paint as they will shine the dull paint look over time. Bugslide will not do that and cleans denim paint like a dream.  Bugslide will remove the bugs, grease, and dirt with ease. BugSlide leaves a protective, microscopic finish that continuously repels dust, dirt, water and fingerprints.  Buglside is tested by bikers for bikers in a real world environment.

Harley-Davidson makes what they call a denim paint cleaner. Of course, they stamp their logo on it and mark the price up. I tested Harley's denim paint cleaner and Bugslide blew it away in every way.

Remember, Harley's denim paint cleaner is really only for denim paint. Bugslide works on denim paint and all paints. Bugslide is free of abrasives and is safe on all non-porous surfaces including; paint, chrome, glass, fiberglass, acrylic, aluminum, plexiglas, plastic, lexan, vinyl and leather. I threw the single purpose Harley denim paint cleaner in the trash.

Don't worry, we also have you covered for a wet wash motorcycle cleaner! Yes, for both denim paint and all motorcycle paints. For wet washes, my #1 go-to cleaner is Bike Brite Motorcycle Spray Wash Cleaner & Degreaser.

It's simple………for wet washing & restoration I use Bike Brite Products. For in between maintenance, shining, and cleaning I use Bugslide!

The best thing about Bugslide is that I never need to wax my Harley again! The release agent in BugSlide contains a UV filter for added protection.

It is often times well over that amount, yet we know you can do this project yourself by watching this tutorial video. We teach you everything you will need to know and walk you through the entire process.

You will not find a more thorough aftermarket handlebar install tutorial video out there. It is a video by bikers for bikers. You can put new handlebars on your Harley right in your garage or on your patio right on the kickstand! There are no specialty tools or motorcycle lifts required and I will give you a list of items you will need and things to think about later in this article.

The video is high definition and it's like you can reach out and turn the wrenches with us. In this video, we skip no steps and we have no doubt that after watching you can do this project with ease. Tons of bikers all over the world now have aftermarket handlebars on their Harley's because of this exact video. We are very detailed in our explanations and we want you to be successful. That is where we get our greatest satisfaction, hearing of successful installs!

There are many aftermarket handlebars for your Harley Davidson motorcycle in every shape, color, and size imaginable and the cost can vary just as much. There are many companies making quick connect/install kits. Most of these simple kits are the same and come with a bundle of colored wires for extending  wire harnesses, quick connectors, and shrink tube. If you are going with taller style handlebars then the kit may also include an extended clutch cable and extended front brake lines.

Many of these handlebar wiring kits have quick connect pins for extending the stock wire harnesses. You usually take off the stock plastic Harley wire plugs, extend the wires with the quick kit colored wires, and then plug back into the stock plugs all without soldering. You can always snip the quick connectors that come with the wire kits and solder if you are more comfortable with that.

There are also kits with the OEM plugs on the end of the wire extensions to quickly hook up after soldering extensions in. Either way, we have you covered in this video. We filmed several different kits and show you how to proceed depending on your particular kit, which aren't much different.

We can tell you from experience that you will want to have a soldering iron and solder on hand. Often times because of bulky plugs it may be necessary to solder a bit to make things clean and easy. Your extension kit may require soldering. Don't worry, we make soldering so easy and show you exactly how to do it properly in this video.

Most the time you can go as tall as 12″ aftermarket handlebars without having to replace wires, cables, and lines. I said, “most the time”, so you need to do your own research for your particular year and model before you begin your project.

It doesn't really matter the year and make of your Harley as this process is pretty standard. We can say that this video covers 2000 and newer Harley's and likely earlier models.  There are minor changes on bolt sizes etcetera over the years, but the concepts and procedures are pretty much the same.

We show you how to remove the clutch, compensator sprocket, primary chain, chain tensioner, outer housing, and inner primary housing! There are many reasons you may want to remove the primary drive & housings on your Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Maybe your shifter seal is leaking, you need to replace your primary chain, you want to access your final belt drive, you need to replace your primary chain tensioner, you want to install forward controls, or for any other reason.

Harley-Davidson Boom Box Via Point 1 Error & Problem-Easy Workaround | VLOG 31

Harley Boom Box Via Point 1 Error YT copyVideo-I was recently on a 6-day motorcycle trip across multiple states on my Harley Davidson Street Glide Special. We ultimately ended up in Colorado.

Prior to leaving, we had our ride completely mapped out using Harley Davidson Ride Planner. I downloaded our trip and uploaded it to my Boom Box Infotainments System, which has integrated GPS.

We all know by now that the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System has had many bugs and issues since its inception. The integrated GPS system has seen its fair share of quirks that can be very frustrating.  Harley-Davidson & Harman Kardon, makers of the Boom Box, have been trying to work the issues out through the routine Boom Box Software Updates.

The error and frustration I speak of in this tutorial video is specific to the GPS “via point 1” issue. Basically, Ride Planner & the Boom Box don't always translate things the same. A rider should be able to just head out on the road each day and hit the “start” button in the GPS for that day's ride. What happens is that a mysterious “via point 1” gets put into the mix.

So, you head out on your Harley after hitting “start” button and the GPS keeps trying to re-route  you back to “via point 1”.  In my case “via point 1” was a hotel we stayed at the prior night. Frustrating for sure.

The way you get around this is to go into the listed addresses and locations for that day's ride. Don't just hit the “start” button. Instead, scroll down through the ride plan and select the next physical address you are headed to that day. Then the Boom Box leaves behind “via point 1” and you can head on down the road.
