2022 PNW Patron Meet-upLaw Abiding Biker (LAB) Store Manager Big Daddy Kane (BDK) put on a Pacific Northwest meet-up and ride.  Unfortunately, we were unable to do an official LAB meet-up and ride earlier in the summer, like we do every year.  Rick took it upon himself to plan a meet-up and ride, which was much appreciated.  We met at the LAB store in Richland, WA.  Rick opened up the store for yours and hooked Patrons up with some merch/parts.  We had a beautiful ride into Oregon and back to BDK's place for a BBQ.  

The ride was on August 20, 2022.  Members of LAB that attended were BDK (and his wife), Goat, Ryan, Lurch (and his wife), Oscar, Squid, and Sturgis Jeff (and his wife).

BDK settled the long debate dispute of what Charles Wilburn's road name should be.  It jas been a topic in the LAB Patro Member Only FaceBook Group.  BDK presented Charles with a “Dakota” name tab.  He also presented Bob Dawson with a “Picasso” name tag.  Bob operated Dawson's Painting out of Yakima.  He hooked the LAB studio and BDK's garage up with awesome paint jobs.

In this episode, I had a chance to speak with Patron Member Kris Lizak and his wife, Wendy from Ashland, WI. I had the pleasure of meeting Kris in person at past Official Law Abiding Biker Patron Member ride and meetup events.

As Law Abiding Biker Media continues to grow so does the awesome and supportive community. Aside from the yearly “official” Law Abiding Biker ride and meetup event, members are creating their own rides and meetups across the U.S. This is just awesome and who knows if this will start happening internationally!

We use the term “unsanctioned' event in a fun and playful way. Kris organized the event in the Private Patron Member-only group. He had posted this event in the Private Patron Member Only Facebook Group and got a great response!  

We go over the details of what the event was all about, which was held on July 16, 2021, in Mercer, WI.  There was a beautiful day ride and then the actual meetup event. These events are low key and it's nothing but good hard working bikers/motorcyclists meeting up and sharing something we all have a passion for,  the sport of motorcycling.

LAB-259-California 2021 Here We Come! Patron Member Meetup Details!

The Law Abiding Biker Crew has decided we will be heading out from Washington State for a long group motorcycle ride in 2021 and will ultimately end up in California for quite a few days!  Many of the crew here at LAB will be coming and we're really looking forward to this. California 2021, here we come!

Additionally, we'll be hosting our yearly Law Abiding Biker™ Media group motorcycle ride and meet up event with our beloved Patron Members on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, which will start near Placerville, CA. You must have been a mid-level or above Patron Member for 3 months prior to the meetup on June 29th. That means you must have been signed up as a mid-level Patron or above by March 29, 2021, to be eligible for the meetup event. You also must officially sign up for the event with us and get confirmation.

LAB-253-First Ever West Coast Patron Member Biker Meetup-Law Abiding Biker Style!

Patron member Brad Johnston from Redmond, Oregon organized and hosted the first-ever Law Abiding Biker Patron Member Organized Meetup & Ride on the west coast! Every year, Law Abiding Biker™ Media organizes its own member meet up and ride but this particular ride was organized by a member for members, which is just awesome! I was fortunate enough to have attended the ride and event Brad hosted. We jokingly call these member hosted events “unsanctioned” but it's all in good fun and I totally support them.

When I started Law Abiding Biker™ Media about 7 1/2 years ago I never knew the community would grow to this sort of thing. The Private Patron member-only Facebook Group is where it all happens! It's a troll-free zone and nothing but bikers helping bikers from around the world. It's one of the largest biker communities around and better than any of those spam-filled motorcycle forums!

More and more there are Patron members in the private Facebook group that are organizing and hosting these rides and meetups all over. There have already been two east coast rides! It's unfortunate I have not been able to attend one of those rides yet.

A bunch of the crew from Law Abiding Biker™ Media rode down to Oregon and met up with the group of Patron members. Brad took everyone on a beautiful motorcycle ride and tour around the area. Afterward, we all went to Brad's home where he and his wife hosted an awesome dinner with drinks for all of us! We really got to connect with each other. What an amazing experience and this is what the law abiding biker community is all about and why it's growing so quickly!

Sturgis 2020 Canceled? 80th Anniversary? COVID-19!

Sturgis 2020, the 80th anniversary, may be canceled due to the COVID-19 virus. It's not official yet, but it's being discussed. (see video below)

The below information is taken directly from the City of Sturgis Facebook Page and it was released on April 23, 2020 at 2:03 pm. 

April 23, 2020
STURGIS, SD – The Sturgis City Council has prepared a set of protocols that will be used when making the decision to hold or cancel the upcoming City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally scheduled for August 7-16, 2020. This decision will be under consideration because of the wide-spread COVID-19 pandemic.

Considerations for the Rally in 2020
• Before hosting any event, the City must be reasonably ensured that it would not levy an undue burden on the health of our residents and our health care services.
• Nearly every corporation in America has greatly reduced travel and trade shows. If the Rally is held, there will likely be a great reduction in the number of major corporate exhibitors along with smaller vendors who also will be hesitant to travel.
• Beyond the additional revenue for 43% of our residents (broken down below), many of our businesses are heavily dependent upon Rally revenue, if the event is not held, we anticipate significant negative impacts up to and including foreclosures for our community’s restaurants, hotels, Main Street gift shops and hospitality industries (including pet services). Any closure will likely take years to be replaced by a new business. This is true in neighboring communities throughout the Black Hills.
• Many of the smaller vendors rely upon the City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the bulk of their annual profit. If the event is not held, they may not be able to make it to the next year.

Impact of the Rally
The City of Sturgis hosts the state’s single largest tourism event.
The 79th Annual Rally generated the following:
• $655,090,000 of direct spending by visitors
• $65,509,000 in additional indirect spending
• $615,116 in funding for local non-profit and charitable organizations
• $1,165,688 in net profit to the City of Sturgis
• In 2014, the City’s SIP resident survey indicated 15% of residents rent their homes, 6% rent their yards and 22% work a Rally job – 43% of our residents are a part of the Rally
This income is generally 5-15% of a household’s annual income

Metrics for Consideration
The City has determined that it will make a decision on holding the 2020 City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally based upon empirical data. This will focus on whether the state is capable of hosting a larger number of visitors and if the areas where our visitors usually come from have a high probability of carrying the COVID-19 virus.

• ICU beds available
• Ventilators available
Virus Case Growth
 Percentage weekly change in infections in South Dakota
Virus Case Growth in primary markets (represent 50.6% of attendees)
 Follow weekly growth in cases (infection curve) for MN, CO, NE, CA, WI, WY, WA, IA, KS and AZ

Timeline
There will be a series of calls to begin gauging the temperature of the industry leaders. This will be combined with the metrics to guide the Council’s decision regarding whether the City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally should be canceled.

LAB-223-What happened at the Eastern Law Abiding Biker Meetup Event?

biker meetupListen in as I have special guest and patron member, Russell Roberts, on a mic. We go over the inside details of how the first-ever Law Abiding Biker member to member meetup and ride event went.  Law Abiding Biker personnel were not involved with this event and this was patron members meeting patron members. This was all organized in the private Law Abiding Biker Facebook group that can only be accessed by patron members. This is a troll-free zone and is just but bikers helping and connecting with other bikers. There are all sorts of other small rides and meetups between members going on all the time in that group! There's no better time to get signed up as an Official Patron Member!

There was a group ride organized for the event on June 22, 2019, that went from North Carolina to Tennessee. Some highlights were riding the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and the Tail of the Dragon! Many stops were made along the way for bonding time amongst fellow bikers and photo opportunities. Many of those pics are posted in the private patron member-only Facebook group.

The group ride ended at a private residence that had been rented in Tennessee. There was plenty of food, drinks, and activities. There was plenty of bonding time and many new friends were made at this event.
