Podcast-Upon popular request from our audience, we will discuss & review four major brand name speaker and amplifier systems for replacing the stock Boom Audio speakers & adding an amplifier on 2014 & newer Harley-Davison touring motorcycles equipped with the Boom™! Box Infotainment system.

We have spent time with each of these audio systems and have tested them heavily in many different real world environments. We are bikers through and through, so our tests are for the average day to day biker out there. We did not test in some sterile controlled environment like many manufacturers do.

Podcast-I did an article a few months ago titled “Harley Stage 1 & 2 Speakers with Boom Audio Amplifier Review & Information“. There is a ton of useful information over there and I encourage you to take a look before proceeding here. This podcast episode is a follow-up on that basic information. We get deep into the Harley Boom Audio amp and speaker kits and you really just need to listen in.

We answer many questions in this episode. Should you get a Harley Boom Audio Stage 1 or 2 system? Which years is this system for? Can you upgrade from a stage 1 to a stage 2 later on? Is the system worth the money? Do you need a dealer download into your Boom Box after you upgrade? Can you install the system yourself? Does it sound good? In our opinion, Harley Davidson has done a rather poor job explaining the difference between Boom Audio Stage I & Stage II kits. Even on Harley Davidson's own website it can be hard to navigate and understand what components and wiring kits you need to actually purchase based on your needs.

Information/Set Up

If you run stage 1 speakers up front and in the rear (passenger) then you just need one 4 channel Boom Audio amplifier mounted in the front fairing. One channel goes to each speaker. If you want to run the stage 2 speakers in front and rear then you will need an additional amplifier in the rear mounted in a saddlebag. Each front fairing stage 2 speaker runs on two channels on the 4 channel amp. One channel goes to the mid-range on the speakers and one to the tweeter. Yes, you can also add additional saddlebag lid speakers, powered by the rear 4 channel amp. One channel goes to each of the 4 rear speakers (passenger & lid speakers).

Note: If you choose the upgrade with a Boom Audio amplifier then a Dealer Digital Technician software update is required. Basically, they have to flash your Boom!™ Box system to work with the new amp(s). Harley dealerships are charging for this service.

Harley Stage 1 & 2 Speakers with Boom Audio Amplifier Review & Information

Harley-Davidson has released the Boom! Audio Stage 1 & 2 motorcycle audio suite of speakers & amps. Many dealerships have the varying stage 1 & 2 speakers and amps set up on site in a display box and you can take a listen. I must say I was fairly impressed with the sound in the dealership. Note that the speakers were not actually installed in a Harley, which would be the real test.

Remove & install Harley Davidson touring outer front fairing

I took my Harley Boom Audio aftermarket speakers out of my 2011 Harley Street Glide and put the stock speakers back in. This is because I purchased a 2014 Harley Street Glide Special (SGS).

You don't get anything extra by selling or trading your used Harley Davidson with aftermarket speakers installed. I made more money by removing them and selling them separately on Ebay, Amazon, or Craigslist.

You never recoup the money you have invested by selling your Harley or other brand motorcycle with all the aftermarket products you have purchased and installed. However, some products that are labor intensive and may involve much more install/uninstall time may not be worth removing (new handlebars with wiring etc). Pick and choose what is worth removing easily/timely and worthy of getting a great return of investment (ROI) for your time.

LAB-24-How Far to Live Away From a Motorcycle Club Chapter | What is Acceptable?

PODCAST-In this episode of the Law Abiding Biker Motorcycle Podcast we discuss in length the ongoing question of how far you should live away from a law abiding biker motorcycle club chapter that you might want to join or be involved with. The question arises often with the club we are involved with, the Sworn Few MC. The Sworn Few MC has to respond to many emails reference this question, so we thought we would put it out on a podcast. Should you try to join the closest chapter, or ask permission to start a new chapter or support crew? What are the best protocols and practices? What is acceptable? Of course opinions vary on this from club to cub, but there are some fine points to consider in the matter.

Second, we discuss several emails we have received along with comments posted directly on the Law Abiding Biker Motorcycle Website. These questions are all in reference to Harley Davidson exhaust, air intakes, mufflers, remapping your fuel injection, or buying an aftermarket product to map your fuel injection. We answer all your questions and have many videos and blogs that cover this (links at the bottom of this post). We tell you exactly what is in our opinion the exact route you should go reference these issues and the costs involved. We have direct access to certified Harley Davidson mechanics and talk with them often about these issues.

Last, we discuss the new 2014 Harley Davidson liquid cool models and the future of such. The first liquid-cooled engine outfitted on a Harley touring bike is called the Twin Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 V-Twin. Twin cooling cools the heads around the exhaust ports to deliver at or near peak performance under all operation conditions and temperatures. This is achieved via a small 1.1 quart liquid-cooling system that routes through the downtubes to discreet radiators housed in the lower fairing louvers. The system will make less engine heat in stop-and-go traffic. The first two Harley motorcycles with the Twin Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 engine are the 2014 Ultra Limited Motorcycle and the 2014 Tri Glide Ultra Motorcycle. There's also a 110 cubic inch version of the Twin Cooled engine available in the 2014 CVO Limited. #LawAbidingBiker #BikerPodcast #MotorcyclePodcast

Harley-Davidson Boom Audio High Performance Fairing Speaker

VIDOE & BLOG-I think it is fair to say that every Harley owner knows that Harley dealer parts are over priced and cringe when paying. There are just some Harley dealer parts that after market companies don’t make, or don’t make as well. There are however many companies out there that sale very high quality parts and accessories for Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

In my many purchases of Harley dealer parts I came across one that stands out for the value of what you are getting; Harley Davidson Boom Audio High Quality Performance Fairing Speakers. I bought these speakers last summer for my Street Glide and am very pleased.

I must say that for a price of around $150 these speakers blow away the stock Harley touring model speakers by a long shot without any amplifier to install. A Sworn Few MC (www.swornfewmc.com) brother of mine bought them before I did and we parked our bikes next to each other. I could not believe the sound difference between his speakers and my stock Harley speakers and had to inquire further about them. After learning the price and that no amplifier was installed, I just had to have a pair. The speakers look very sharp once installed and are a two part speaker; the main speaker and a separate front tweeter.

The speakers are plenty loud heading down the freeway and there is no need to even turn your volume all the way up. At a stand still in town you could really annoy your club brother your riding with or other persons. Yes, one of my Sworn Few MC (www.swornfewmc.com) brothers has to be told to “turn them down” in town, but I will not reveal his name. We in the Sworn Few LEMC all know who he is and we tell him that not everybody likes his music……………It would be boring I guess if we ever didn’t have to tell him.

Installation:

I happen to be pretty mechanically inclined, but don’t worry if your not. You don’t need to pay a Harley mechanic at expensive hourly rates to install these bad boys.

You need basic wrenches and screwdrivers, but nothing specialty for the install. There is no soldering of any sort and the speaker wires plug right in to where you remove your stock speaker wires. They are truly ready to go.

All you have to do is remove your fairing, which is a series of a few bolts and it comes right off with ease. You then simply remove your old speakers and replace them with the Boom Audio speakers. Plug them in and replace the faring and you are ready to rock!

Give yourself about 1 hour for the install and another hour or so to sit on your bike and listen to them in your garage. Oh, don’t forget to go get the wife, so she can hear them too. Oh heck, maybe grab a neighbor or two also.
