I TEST RODE A 2024 Harley CVO ST Road Glide ON A RACE TRACK!

The inception of the 2024 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST undeniably stems from the fervor generated by the Mission King Of The Baggers race series, a phenomenon that has exploded in recent years. It has ignited a desire among enthusiasts for a performance-oriented bagger equipped with high-performance and custom components straight out of the factory, and it appears that Harley aimed to fulfill this demand. To see if this 2024 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide ST is truly race-inspired, I rode it at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway race track to rigorously test its overall capabilities. While it stands as an impressive bike, it falls short of perfection. Depending on the type of riding one prefers, it may not be your optimal choice within the 2024 Harley model lineup.

The Engine:

The heart of the Harley Road Glide CVO ST lies in its Milwaukee-Eight 121 ci engine, featuring a cam upgrade and high-flow intake that delivers 127 horsepower at 4900 RPM, 145 ft. lbs. of torque at 4000 RPM, and a redline at 5900 RPM. In contrast to the regular CVO models with variable valve timing (VVT), this model's absence of internal VVT allows for easier upgrades and tuning for race-inspired performance. On the track, the engine comes alive at higher RPMs, providing an exhilarating experience with just the right amount of feedback in the handlebars.

Race Inspired Components:

Notably, the Harley Road Glide CVO ST boasts race-inspired components such as inverted Showa front suspension and rear suspension with remote reservoirs, both featuring adjustable pre-load, compression, and rebound dampening. Wave-style brake rotors on the front wheel aid in heat dissipation, while the front radially mounted Brembo calipers enhance performance.

Ride Modes:

The bike offers basic ride modes and a customizable mode for fine-tuning power delivery, engine braking, cornering ABS, and cornering traction control. Two dedicated track ride modes, “track” and “track plus,” with input from Kyle Wyman, King Of The Baggers factory rider for Harley-Davidson, add a dynamic element to the riding experience.

Body Style, Lighting & Safety:

The aesthetic appeal is elevated with the newly designed sharknose fairing, saddlebags, and an integrated digital dash and infotainment system running Skyline OS. LED lighting surrounds the bike, complemented by all available rider safety enhancements.

Who's This Bike For?

While the Harley Road Glide CVO ST package is undeniably impressive, its suitability depends on the rider's preferences. For those inclined towards day rides, aggressive road tearing, and corner carving, this bike is a dream. However, for long-distance touring, the smoother 117 ci Milwaukee-Eight on the standard Street and Road Glide models may be a more fitting choice, with the option to upgrade the Milwaukee-Eight motor in the future.

Changes I'd Like To See:

In contemplating future iterations, a desire for increased lean angle is expressed, as the current 33 degrees on the right and 32 on the left may limit experienced riders on the track. Additionally, while the completely adjustable Showa suspension is appreciated, a shift toward electronically adjustable suspension within the digital dash system is suggested.

Despite these minor considerations, the Harley Road Glide CVO ST remains a remarkable machine, certain to evoke smiles from riders. This article offers only a glimpse into the bike's offerings, and for a comprehensive understanding, it is recommended to watch the accompanying video below.

In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about being impartial when reviewing motorcycles; in particular Harley-Davidson motorcycles. This topic was spurred by a voicemail message left by long-time listener Steve Kastell. Steve expressed concern about the impartiality of my Harley-Davidson motorcycle reviews. His concern stemmed from the fact that the majority of the motorcycle ride and review events I attend are hosted by Harley-Davidson.

The topic then flows into the announcement that our YouTube Channel just went past 200,000 subscribers. I talk about the journey to get to 200k subscribers; the good and the bad. You can leave us a voicemail HERE if you have comments or questions that might turn into a show topic.

We've been at the YouTube Channel and Podcast game for over 11 years now. For the first eight of those years, we reviewed bikes that we could get our hands on. Many of those bikes belonged to friends and family. We were able to occasionally wrangle on out of our local Harley-Davidson dealer. Unfortunately, we generally only got to take those bikes out for a few hours.

Here at Law Abiding Biker, we worked hard to get the attention of Harley and most recently Indian Motorcycles. Hopefully, as we continue to grow our reach we'll get access to new brands. We do our best to be honest and impartial when reviewing bikes. I don't just gush over the new bike like some other YouTube Channels. We will pick out things that can be improved on even if they are “knit-picky”. The truth is, I've been hard on Harley in the past and still point out when they can do better. We appreciate Steve leaving the voicemail and expressing his concern. Heck, it provided good content for the podcast.

2023 Indian Pursuit Long Term Test Ride & Review; Is This The Perfect Touring Motorcycle?

I got to spend 3 weeks test-riding and reviewing this 2023 Indian Pursuit Dark Horse motorcycle with the premium package. I really wanted to put some miles on this bike, so the first weekend we went on a long-distance overnight road trip. I also rode this bike daily at times to really test it in a real-world environment and really get a feel for what it's all about.

Here are some of the major things you should know: (see the video below for the full review and many more details)

I first used the Indian Ride Command online trip planner to plan our trip. It didn't take me long to find my way around and also find some glitches, but hey, it's free. It had some features that I really liked such as choosing the color of your route and a 3D flyover of your trip. I then downloaded the .gpx file and uploaded it to the Ride Command unit on the bike using a memory stick with no issues. You can also share a link to your ride with others if you like.

We set out for our trip and I activated Apple Car Play on the Ride Command by plugging in my iPhone and pairing my Bluetooth headset with Ride Command, which are requirements to activate it. Often times Apple Car Play would not activate or it'd take up to 3 minutes to to do so. I also resorted to unplugging and plugging in my iPhone to get it to activate. The internal navigation in Ride Command also reversed my routes and had some other routing issues during our trip.

There were several other glitches I experienced while using the Ride Command. My hope is that Indian can fix some of these issues with future software updates. With that said, Harley-Davidson has had many of the same issues and glitches with its Boom Box Infotainment System.

The Indian Pursuit is equipped with the PowerPlus liquid-cooled 108 ci engine. This engine was amazing as far as power and performance are concerned. This is a 1768 cc engine and it produces 122 HP and 129 ft lbs torque at 3800 RPM. I found this motor definitely comes alive at 3800 RPM and above. There is plenty of passing power and throttle blips can bring the front tire off the ground. Every time I rolled the throttle I was smiling.

The PowerPlus engine does produce a fair amount of vibrations in the handlebars, seat, and floorboards, especially above 3800 RPMs. There is plenty of feedback, but not to the point of being negative. It was just more than I expected. The bike settles down nicely when you're just cruising down the freeway for long periods.

This motor also puts out more heat than I would have expected considering it's liquid-cooled. It was very noticeable at below 50mph, even with the lower fairing vents open. It's especially noticeable shin down on the insides of your legs and feet. This is not a deal breaker, but certainly must be noted.

I was very impressed with how the stock front suspension and rear suspension handled. The Indian Purusuit I had was equipped with the premium package and because of that, I could adjust the rear suspension preload within the Ride Command. This was amazing!

There are other things that you also get when you upgrade from a base price of $32,000 to the premium package, adding an additional $3,000 to the price tag. You get a two-up heated seat, adjustable passenger floorboards, lower fairing compartment, integrated lower LED lights, and smart lean technology, which is the bike sensing lean angle to adjust traction control and ABS. I'd definitely say that if you can afford it, go for the premium package.

The bike is certainly made for touring, coming stock with heated grips, cruise control, 3 ride modes, a 6-speed transmission, and a 6-gallon fuel tank. You'll get around 37-40 mpg depending on how you are riding. The transmission is quieter and there is very little audible or tactile feedback when shifting.
