LAB-152-Switching From Victory (Polaris) to Harley-Davidson | Should You?

Podcast-Rick “Big Daddy” Kane and Brian White were in the studio with me after spending the day filming and installing Vance & Hines Power Dual headers on Brian's 2017 Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Road Glide Special.  These headers get rid of your catalytic converter (cat), opening up the flow, increasing power & sound, & greatly reducing heat on the rider. Cats create a large amount of heat.

We also installed Vance & Hines Titan 450 Over-Sized slip on mufflers for an awesome power boost, great sound, and good look. We finished by installing a Harley-Davidson stage-one air intake and mapped the electronic fuel injection (EFI) with a Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 EFI tuner after making these modifications.  Make sure you are subscribed to our YouTube Channel, so you are notified when these install and review videos are released.

Brian was a Victory owner for many years and recently bought this denim black 2017 Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Road Glide Special. Rick and I question Brian as to his thought process for switching from Victory to Harley-Davidson. One big consideration, of course, is Polaris', owner of Victory, recent decision to cease all production of the Victory line. Brian brings some interesting points to the discussion. He discusses which bike he likes better and why. You really need to listen in to this discussion.

Putting these V&H Power Dual headers on increased the sound of Brian's bike, because of the cat now being gone. It also increased performance & cut out a ton of heat.  We really liked the overall sound with the installation of the V&H Titan 450 OS slip-on mufflers.

Podcast-In this podcast episode we go into detail about the recent Polaris announcement that it will no longer manufacture Victory Motorcycles, effective immediately. The company will help dealerships in liquidating the current stock and will provide parts for its models for 10 years along with service and warranty coverage.

Victory began in 1998 with sales peaking in 2012. Since then, they have declined over the years and in 2015, Victory represented only 3 percent of total Polaris sales. It is reported that Victory dealerships only sold about 20 motorcycles a year.   Polaris has lost money in Victory 3 out of the past five years. Add in the recent recalls over the Slingshot and its side-by-side vehicles, and their decision to give up Victory is understandable.

Of course, Polaris is chasing Harley-Davidson and wants more of the market and they may be able to do that by consolidating and focusing on Indian Motorcycles. Only time will tell.

Victory Magnum Art copy 2Video-In this video we give you a complete walk-around of a 2016 Victory Magnum motorcycle from an everyday bikers perspective. The Victory Magnum is similar in many ways to a Victory Cross Country model. However, the Magnum does not have engine guards and has a 21″ front wheel, the biggest wheel ever fit to a production bagger.  Then, there is the Magnum Stealth X-1, which has an upgraded sound system.  It has a 200-watt stereo system, including 10 waterproof speakers in all, including six in the front fairing — two 5.25-inch bass speakers, two 2.5-inch mid-ranges and two tweeters — plus a 6×9 and a tweeter in each saddlebag lid. The X-1 also gets a set of new black billet wheels accented by contrast cuts and a LED headlight.

The Victory Magnum is a touring class bike. It fits right line as such and competes with rivals such as the Harley-Davidson Street Glide, still the number-one-selling motorcycle in the United States, and the Indian Chieftain. The Victory Magnum is 800-pounds and a nearly nine-foot-long bagger, so don't get confused if looking at the X-1 “Stealth” model. It's not very “stealthy”.

The Magnum has ABS-enabled braking, three 300 mm discs, two up front and one in rear.  The Victory Magnum has a 1731cc Freedom 106 and a 6-speed overdrive constant mesh transmission. It has air-adjustable rear shocks and a 5.8-gallon tank should provide decent range between trips to the gas station.

Where I see the Victory Magnum failing in the touring class is the lack of an integrated GPS system such as Harley Davidson's Boom!™ Box Infotainment System or the Indian's new Ride Command System. I know they must be working on an integrated GPS and infotainment system to keep up with the competition.

LAB-62-Can a Business Legally Refuse Service to Bikers Wearing Patches/Colors?

Motorcycle Podcast Art Biker Colors PatchesPODCAST-Is it legal for private businesses to refuse service to members of the law abiding biker motorcycle clubs for simply wearing “colors”, club affiliation patches worn on biker's vests? We have been asked this question many times here and recently received a voicemail asking this very question once again. You may hear many different things and less than truthful information and that can be frustrating for many bikers. So, as usual we broke it down for the biker community, so listen in on this debate and information! At the end of the day it doesn't really always matter what we as bikers believe should happen, but what is fact. Know that this will likely be a civil issue unless your behavior turns it into a criminal issue.

Things to think about before acting:

If you are confronted with a business refusing service to you as a biker then take a breath, leave calmly, and never go back to or support that business. You will never win by causing a scene or getting disorderly. If you believe your civil rights have been trampled then converse with an attorney to see what your legal options are if any. At best it will be a long expensive drawn out civil lawsuit, so choose wisely.

Further, share your experience with as many bikers as you can via podcasts, other social media platforms, local media etc. In this day an age it is not tough to get the word out to let bikers know of “not biker friendly” establishments and we can hit them in the pocket book where it really matters. This may also bring awareness to many. There are websites and social media platforms dedicated to this.
